Commemorating the Bicentennial of His Birt

As part of the bicentennial of his birth, this exhibition pays tribute to the Mexican historian Joaquín García Icazbalceta (1825–1894). Through a selection of over 120 objects—including manuscripts, books, prints, maps, portraits, photographs, and other works—the exhibition explores various aspects of his life and intellectual legacy, highlighting his work as a researcher, editor, and defender of documentary heritage.

The show offers a comprehensive view of the thought and contributions of one of Mexico’s foremost scholars. Its narrative unfolds across eight thematic axes, beginning with a glimpse into his origins, close family ties, and the haciendas owned by the García Icazbalceta family.
